Contact seem to have these fantastic deals a lot, I don't seem to see them very often from other providers. Anyone know one to keep an eye on? I'm still with Contact for broadband/power because I haven't seen a deal worth switching off for.

    • same, I've been with Contact for 3 years now for power. Seemed like they're the cheapest for me; somehow i'm still on 90c daily charge and the unit pricing hasn't increase for 2 years.
If I move, i get stung instantly by the 1.20c daily charge and the unit price is either slightly cheaper or the same.

      • They have started phasing out low user plans. Check your lastest invoice it might not be 90c anymore

        • My latest invoice has a partial month of 90c and $1.20

I'm also up to 42c a unit including GST on the Good Nights plan, up from 36c

          • @etcode: Ouch.

I'm in the South Island and my rates with Contact's Good Nights plan were due to go up to $1.38/day and 33.1c/kwh (inc gst) in December.

So I changed to Meridian instead for 4 free hours and rates of $1.3738/day and 25.45c/kwh (inc gst).

        • That's the thing.

Maybe I slipped through the crack. December bill:
          daily charge 90c x 28 days = 25.20

          • @spam: Your Jan bill will have partial month split between 90c and 1.2

            • @Zyo: Is this only for low user plans? I haven't received a notice for a price increase and the current rates on the website are higher than what I'm currently paying but I'm on a standard user plan.

              • @Bill: only for low user because they are moving everyone to the standard pricing.

                • @Zyo: Right because they are allowed to raise the daily charge over a course of 5 years under that labour policy a few years ago.

      • I was in the same situation like you but contact sent an email for a price hike last month and I think they will putting price up for all eventually sadly to say

        • Are you on a low user or standard user plan?

        • I haven't received any email or price hike which based on what people commented here might be soon

I've been waiting for this deal for a few days now, glad to see it's come but the deals are getting worse and worse. At first I thought it was $400 for joining broadband but then realised that it was the combined amount.

First it was $400, then $300, and now only $200.

    ooh this is good

We signed up to their fibre broadband last year and it was so bad. The support team was basically useless when it came to remedying the issues of super low speed and disconnections. I switched as soon as I passed the minimum threshold period.

    • I had a similar experience with Contact in Christchurch. For some reason, they repeatedly cycled through the dynamic addresses multiple times, causing interruptions (the longest streak was three days).

      • Same here in Chch. Switched to Slingshot and was smooth sailing since then.

    • I had contact for power and internet, and while the power side was fine, the internet was just OK. I think because internet isn't their core business they don't do it very well.

They also use a CNAT so if you want to do any port forwarding you're shit out of luck.

It's probably fine if you just use Facebook and insta or whatever.

  • Yep with contact for power and internet. It's the cheapie way.

    • $85 per month for fibre is not cheap.

      • Isn't it pretty standard? I pay $70 for 300mbps after Contact discounts

        • From what I've seen most people on cheapies pay $60 or $65 a month for 300mbps with slingshot. Although as the 1 year terms are maturing now there will be more and more people paying more.

Are you sure you still pay $70 a month now? That shouldn't be possible with the price rises and would also mean you would be on the bundle plan which gives worse electricity rates.

          • @Bill: My bad I was looking at GST exclusive price. I'm on free power 9pm to midnight

          • @Bill: You would prefer fixed terms instead of open terms for electricity and boardband nowadays cause it will only goes up

  • Be careful if trying to stack with the old referral codes; I tried signing up to power with a referral code then adding broadband in a new transaction with the previous CONTACT300 code, and ended up only getting the referral 100. Very unhappy. Spoke with an agent who confirmed the correct codes were used. There was also some confusion with moving, never using a 3rd party to update utilities again.

I think I’ve signed up the mobile deal about 6 months ago when they first came out. Am I still eligible this time?

  • Anyone thinking of joining Contact Mobile on the $40/month plan, then cancelling after one month? Wonder if the credit would still come through.
